Had looked forward to reading this book during Masters week since the Masters isn’t being played (?) until November. It did not disappoint, but neither did it thrill.Lots of interesting stories , but lacked any real emotion that always accompanies the Masters. Couldn’t visualize the azaleas or feel the crowd. Felt the competition at times, sometimes not.A good book, but not a great one. In fairness, if I had not been to the Masters many times, I might well consider this the best Masters book ever written. It’s good, possibly great for someone who’s never been there, but I can’t say it captures the essence of the tournament.The writer is obviously a very detailed reporter, but that was somewhat of a problem in his writing here. Several times in successive chapters he repeated the same information from previous chapters, sometimes in the same chapter. He did this to emphasize how a golfer’s previous experiences in the tournament affected what happened or did not happen on a particular shot in a particular round.Love the way he compared cheers for Michelson on the golf course to cheers Derek Jeter in Yankee Stadium. Same for Tiger when he won in 2019.Would love to give this book a 5-star rating, but can’t quite do it. How about a 4 3/4? It is incomprehensible that a writer could make an error so large and it escape the editors . The author should be ashamed. Chapter 11 , tigers 1997 victory kinda a big moment. The author discusses in a section called "historic moment" after tiger's wins of receiving a call from President Clinton and then going to Shea stadium 2 days later to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier. In fact tiger never went. He spurned the President 's invitation to keep a long planned trip with his buddies and took quite a bit of heat for it. It's a pathetic miss and I stopped reading this already sloppy book after it.
